The Art of Aging: How to Care for Your Handcrafted Leather
Share
One of the most beautiful things about authentic, vegetable-tanned leather is that it doesn't just get old—it gets better.
Unlike synthetic materials that peel and crack, your Mogadoro leather pouf or bag will develop a rich "patina" over time. This soft sheen and deepening color is the hallmark of high-quality leather. To keep it looking its best for decades, follow these three simple rules.
1. Dust is the Enemy Leather is a porous material that breathes. If dust settles into the pores, it can dry out the leather over time. The fix is simple: once a week, give your pouf or bag a quick wipe with a soft, dry cotton cloth. No water, no soap—just a gentle dusting is enough to keep the surface healthy.
2. Feed the Leather Just like your skin, leather needs moisture to stay soft and supple. Every 6 to 12 months, you can apply a small amount of clear, natural leather conditioner (or even a tiny dab of natural oil). Rub it in gently with a microfiber cloth using circular motions. This prevents cracks and keeps that rich, earthy texture alive.
3. Embrace the Sun (But Not Too Much) While our leather loves the warmth of a sun-drenched room, direct, harsh sunlight for hours every day can fade the color too quickly. Try to place your leather pieces in bright, indirect light. If you spill water on it? Don't use a hairdryer! Just blot it with a dry cloth and let it air dry naturally.
A Living Material Remember, small scratches and changes in color are not flaws; they are the story of your life etched into the material. Wear them with pride.
