The Zellige Bag — Small Leather Barrel Crossbody

The same barrel body, the same twin straps running down the front on riveted keepers, the same antique brass. Take one of our travel duffles, scale it to 27 centimetres, and you have this — which means it's built like luggage rather than like a handbag, and that shows up in the places handbags usually give out.

Look at the handle anchors: rolled leather handles set into brass D-rings on riveted keepers, not stitched flat to a panel. Look at the zip: dual pulls, so it opens from either end, on a track that runs the full width. That's a travel-goods detail on a bag this size, and it's the reason the opening stays usable rather than pinching shut when the bag is full.

Inside, a lined interior with a zip pocket — for the category of thing you'd otherwise spend a minute hunting for at the bottom. The barrel shape is its own argument here: flat-bottomed bags let everything slide into a heap, but a barrel holds a shape, so things stay roughly where you put them.

On size, plainly: 27 × 14 × 15 cm. Phone, wallet, keys, sunglasses, a compact umbrella, a small water bottle. Not a laptop, not a work bag. It's the bag for a day in a city, dinner, a market morning — the one you reach for when you don't want to think about it.

It carries two ways. Rolled leather top handles for the hand or the crook of an arm; a detachable, adjustable strap on brass swivel clips for across the body. The strap comes off entirely, which changes the bag rather than just the grip — clipped on it reads casual, off it reads considered.

Why the collection is called Zellige. Zellige is the hand-cut mosaic tilework of Marrakech: one shape, repeated, in as many colours as the workshop can mix. That's this bag. Single silhouette, several colourways, and the shape is the constant.

Handmade in our Marrakech workshop. The leather will take marks and soften where your hand goes, and small variations in grain and tone between bags are the nature of hand work.

• Care: Wipe with a dry or barely damp cloth. Condition with a neutral leather balm every 3–6 months. Air dry away from direct heat if wet. Never machine wash or dry clean. Store lightly stuffed to hold the barrel shape.
