The Merzouga Weekender — Four-Pocket Brown Leather Duffle

Count the pockets: four on the outside. Two buckled flap pockets across the front, and one on each end panel.

That number is the entire product. Most leather duffles have nothing on the outside at all, which means every time you want a passport, a charger, a phone or a book you unzip thirty-six litres of luggage in a queue and dig. This bag is built so you don't have to open it. Boarding pass in the front left. Phone in the right. Charger cable in one end, water bottle in the other. The main compartment is for clothes and stays shut.

Each front pocket closes with a proper buckle on a leather strap — not a snap, not a magnet. Buckles are slower by about two seconds and they don't pop open in a car boot.

Over the top there's a storm flap with a centre buckle, laid across the full-length zip. It keeps rain off the track and keeps a crowded platform out of your bag. And above the two rolled handles sits a third, short leather grab handle — the one you actually use to haul the bag off a carousel or out of a boot, because hauling by the carry handles is what pulls them loose over time.

The leather is worth looking at closely. It's a pull-up finish, so the colour lives in the oils rather than on the surface: the brown pools dark in the low spots and lifts to a lighter tan where the hide flexes. It photographs as a marbled, mottled surface and in person it moves as you handle it. Scuffs don't sit on top of this finish — they sink into it, and most disappear under a fingertip and a drop of balm.

Inside, a lined interior with a zip pocket, so the things that shouldn't wander have somewhere to be.

At 50 × 27 × 27 cm it's the classic 36-litre two-to-three night size, soft-sided enough to compress into an overhead locker.

Handmade in our Marrakech workshop. Pull-up leather mottles differently on every hide, so tone and pattern will vary from these photographs by design.

• Care: Wipe with a dry or barely damp cloth. Condition with a neutral leather balm every 3–6 months — pull-up finishes drink conditioner and reward it visibly. Air dry away from heat if wet. Never machine wash or dry clean. Most scuffs massage out with a fingertip and a drop of balm.
