Every basket here starts as dried palm or doum fibre — soaked, split and woven by hand, most of it by Fatima's cooperative in Marrakech, a group of women who have been weaving together for twelve years. The leather trim is cut and stitched separately, then married to the basket by hand.

They're built for use rather than display: a market run, a beach day, a weekend of flowers and bread and a bottle of something. Straw softens where you carry it and darkens slightly where your hand sits, which is how a good basket earns its face over a couple of summers.
